Tennis Masters Cup underway
November 13th 2006 05:21
Roger Federer waved away the memories of last year's Masters Cup by beating David Nalbandian in first clash of the Tennis Masters tournament, underway from yesterday. Last year, David Nalbandian beat him in an epic final which was taken to a 5th set tiebreak and which the Argentinian won.
Whilst last year Federer was bearing an ankle injury which forced him out of the later Masters series tournaments and his hometown tournament in Basel, this time around Nalbandian has suffered a series of injuries this year. Yesterday Federer finished him off 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 after a shaky first set start.
In the round in the Red group, Andy Roddick defeated Ivan Ljubicic 6-4, 6-7(9), 6-1, wasting 2 match points before he won.
Which means the W-L results for the Red Group currently stand at:
Roger Federer 1-0
Andy Roddick 1-0
Ivan Ljubicic 0-1
David Nalbandian 0-1
Tonight sees Rafael Nadal, Nikolay Davydenko, James Blake and Tommy Robredo all in action.
Oh, and ABC having delayed telecast of the Masters is the crappiest. Last year they had it live! The even sadder thing is apparently Pay-TV is a delayed version of the ABC, which is already delayed...
And if anyone hasn't submitted their vote on savemysport.com.au, a campaign to keep sport on free-to-air TV, well, they should.
