Roger Federer wins the US Open
October 7th 2006 00:53
Sorry about this taking so long.
So yes, by now I'm sure everyone knows that Roger beat Andy Roddick in the finals of the US Open. It was nice to see Andy in a final again. Roger himself said:
"I'm really happy to see him back at the top and I'm really happy to play against him."
In a way it was fitting for Roger and Andy to play each other in the finals - they missed each other at the Wimbledon finals where Roger beat Rafael Nadal.
Roger beat Andy 6-2 4-6 7-5 6-1 to claim his 3rd consecutive US Open Title.
No other person has won three consecutive US Open titles and three consecutive Wimbledon titles in the same years.
Roger now has 9 Grand Slam titles under his belt.
Andy's good form in the US Open series has pushed him back up to number 3 in the tennis rankings, with a view to making the Masters Cup in Shanghai at the end of the season.
