Cincy Tennis Day 4 part 1

August 16th 2007 20:24
Who wants it more? Apparently Baggy Baggy… I mean Ferrer.

Mr. Roddick fell to the persistent good serve of Ferrer, 7-6(4), 6-4
Roddick didn’t serve bad, he didn’t face a single break point until the last game of the match. So why the higher seed lost? His forehand shots were not landing on court; he made over 10 unforced errors with his forehand. The forehand is a key part in Roddick’s game and today it wasn’t reliable.
However, what defined the match was how surprisingly good David Ferrer was serving, this frustrated Roddick, take it as a Sampras fact; Big servers get frustrated and complicated when the opponent is serving at their pace.

Ferrer didn’t have the faster serve, but the placement of this left Roddick tumbling and mumbling. Ferrer was consistent and solid; this is a guy that will rarely beat himself.
Andy needs to work a lil more in his readjustment game to make a statement at the US Open. Ferrer needs to keep the good serve and fighting spirit to go deep in this tourney.

Baggy Baggy aka Marcos Baghdatis is making magic against Federer. It will be interesting to see if that can beat Federer.

Carlos Moya, el Moyini!! Is into the quarters of this Cincy! I am really happy to see this. Moya is a great player with good serve and forehand and seeing him having success after his 30s is an inspiration to many players in the tour. He beat Del Potro 7-5, 3-6, 7-5.

In other results so far this Thursday 16;
My lil sis fav. Hewitt defeated J Melzer.
N Almagro over J Nieminen 6-2, 6-2
Young American WC keeps on rolling; Sam Querrey over Nadal’s pacifier J Monaco 6-3, 7-5.

Life is all about making little readjustment here and there; you won’t ever make it perfect, but you can always model it in a way that makes you happy.

Tennis Masters Cup underway

November 13th 2006 05:21
Roger Federer waved away the memories of last year's Masters Cup by beating David Nalbandian in first clash of the Tennis Masters tournament, underway from yesterday. Last year, David Nalbandian beat him in an epic final which was taken to a 5th set tiebreak and which the Argentinian won.

Whilst last year Federer was bearing an ankle injury which forced him out of the later Masters series tournaments and his hometown tournament in Basel, this time around Nalbandian has suffered a series of injuries this year. Yesterday Federer finished him off 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 after a shaky first set start.

In the round in the Red group, Andy Roddick defeated Ivan Ljubicic 6-4, 6-7(9), 6-1, wasting 2 match points before he won.

Ivan Ljubicic Masters Cup Profile

Which means the W-L results for the Red Group currently stand at:
Roger Federer 1-0
Andy Roddick 1-0
Ivan Ljubicic 0-1
David Nalbandian 0-1

Tonight sees Rafael Nadal, Nikolay Davydenko, James Blake and Tommy Robredo all in action.

Oh, and ABC having delayed telecast of the Masters is the crappiest. Last year they had it live! The even sadder thing is apparently Pay-TV is a delayed version of the ABC, which is already delayed...

And if anyone hasn't submitted their vote on savemysport.com.au, a campaign to keep sport on free-to-air TV, well, they should.

Marat Safin showed a surprising performance at the Washington Open, defeating the likes of James Blake and Wesley Moodie to reach the semi-finals, where he lost to eventual champion Arnaud Clement, seeded 11th in the tournament. This is the best result Marat has had so far this year, after sustaining a knee injury in 2005 and receiving a series of poor results.

His Russian Compatriot also showed spark, Dmitry Tursunov stopping Tim Henman 6-7(10) 7-5 6-3 to reach the semis, where he lost to Andy Murray, who debuted in Washington this year

Stanislas Wawrinka, the second highest ranked Swiss player after Roger Federer, claimed his first ATP title at the Studena Croatia Open (also known as the Umag Open) when No.4 seed Novak Djokovic had to retire with respiratory problems. Wawrinka was down 3-1 in the first set tie-break when Djokovic had to stop.

Federer Nadal on collision course

Nadal Closes on First Wimbledon Final

Rafael Nadal continued his unexpected charge towards the Wimbledon final Thursday when he dismissed friendly Finn Jarkko Nieminen 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 to reach his first semifinal at the All England Club. Despite being seeded second, few people expected that Nadal's heavy topspin game would carry him to the last four at Wimbledon. For the third consecutive match Nadal did not drop serve and he has won 12 consecutive sets since being down two-sets-to-love against American qualifier Robert Kendrick in the second round

Grass season rolls in

June 21st 2006 01:05
Roger Federer has made history by equalling Bjorn Bjorg's record of 41 matches on Grass. In comparison, Andy Roddick failed to make history when he was defeated by James Blake at Queens (mentioned earlier) on route to become the first player to win the Stella Artois Championships for 4 consecutive years.

Lleyton Hewitt will face James Blake in the Stella Artois Finals after defeating British Tim Henman in 3 sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. James Blake caused the biggest upset of the day, beating fellow American Andy Roddick, 7-5, 6-4.

Otherwise known as "Queens", the Stella Artois championships are seen as the lead-up tournament to Wimbledon. However, both Lleyton James Blake will have more than a handful of problems trying to defeat Roger Federer, who progressed to the finals at the Gerry Webber Open in Halle, Germany, facing Czech Tomas Berdych. Federer has won the previous 3 Wimbly titles, and should he beat Tomas tomorrow he will equal Bjorn Bjorg's grass-court record of 41 straight wins
