Yesterday's Results:
World Number 1 Roger Federer (SUI) has breezed into the second round with a convincing win over Juan-Ignacio Chela (ARG). The final scoreline was 6-2, 6-1.
The first major upset of the Internazionali d'Italia happened when Dominik Hrbarty defeated the 3rd seed Ivan Ljubicic 5-7, 7-6(4), 6-4. The match took well over two hours!
Other defeats came to Tommy Haas (GER), James Blake (USA), David Ferrer (ESP), and Tommy Robredo (ESP), who was beaten by Britain's Greg Rusedski!
Federer will next play wildcard Polito Starace (ITA), who defeated Dmitry Tursunov (RUS) 6-4, 6-1, whilst Hrbarty faces Fabrice Santoro (FRA).
The full results from Monday are here.
Today:
The Match to Watch would be the one between 19-year old 2nd seed Rafael Nadal (ESP) and his mentor, Carlos Moya (ESP). If "Rafa" retains his title in Rome he is set to become the tennis player with the longest clay-court record in history, beating Guillermo Vilas! The most recent time that Nadal had to play Moya was in Miami where Moya defeated him 6-2, 1-6, 1-6. Moya has currently had a good run at the Estoril Open, making it to the semi-finals there.
Their match will be played after Tim Henman's (GBR) match against wildcard Alessio Di Mauro (ITA), which starts at 1:00pm Rome time.
Dmitry's Blog, the aftermath!
Dmitry Tursunov's blog for the Estoril Open had achieved record of 137000 views! A video clip of Dmitry in Portugal has been posted up on the website and you can see it here.
Thomas Johannson (SWE) is blogging in Rome this week after apparently returning from a very bad injury to his eye! The poor guy feels pressured to write one as good as Dmitry's. Follow Thomas' blog here!
