US Open last night
September 8th 2010 10:01
Excitement was brewing before the start of play yesterday, and it was still reeling after it all ended. The 4 and half hour match against Sam Querrey and Stanislas Wawrinka was undoubtedly one of the best matches of the Open, although I will be honest and say that I didn't watch the whole thing... my attention span doesn't last that long. He ended up winning 7-6; 6-7; 7-5; 4-6; 6-4... talk about a topsy turvy match.
The other big match last night in the mens draw was the all two all spanish affairs. Rafa Nadal maintained his threatening form over his win against Feliciano Lopez 6-3; 6-4; 6-4. And that good looking boy Fernando Verdasco beat David Ferrer in another thrilling five setter after coming back from two sets down and he won it in the tiebreak as well 5-7; 6-7; 6-3; 6-3; 7-6. Mikhail Youzhny was the other winner of the day over Tommy Robredo in four sets.
On the womens side it was also a pretty close night with Venus Williams beating Franscesca Schiavone 7-6; 6-4. Kim Clijsters has to go the distance against in form Sam Stosur but came out on top with a 6-4; 5-7; 6-3 win. Meaning that Venus and Kim will play in the semis.... Yes Please!! should be a cracker and a half.
Here's what's in store from the US Open today:
Kaia Kanepi VS Vera Zvonareva
Gaels Monfils VS Novak Djokovic
Caroline Wozniacki VS Dominika Cibulkova
Roger Federer VS Robin Soderling
Gonna be a good day.
Ciao.
