Cincy Tennis Day 4 part 1

August 16th 2007 20:24
Who wants it more? Apparently Baggy Baggy… I mean Ferrer.

Mr. Roddick fell to the persistent good serve of Ferrer, 7-6(4), 6-4
Roddick didn’t serve bad, he didn’t face a single break point until the last game of the match. So why the higher seed lost? His forehand shots were not landing on court; he made over 10 unforced errors with his forehand. The forehand is a key part in Roddick’s game and today it wasn’t reliable.
However, what defined the match was how surprisingly good David Ferrer was serving, this frustrated Roddick, take it as a Sampras fact; Big servers get frustrated and complicated when the opponent is serving at their pace.
Ferrer didn’t have the faster serve, but the placement of this left Roddick tumbling and mumbling. Ferrer was consistent and solid; this is a guy that will rarely beat himself.
Andy needs to work a lil more in his readjustment game to make a statement at the US Open. Ferrer needs to keep the good serve and fighting spirit to go deep in this tourney.

Baggy Baggy aka Marcos Baghdatis is making magic against Federer. It will be interesting to see if that can beat Federer.

Carlos Moya, el Moyini!! Is into the quarters of this Cincy! I am really happy to see this. Moya is a great player with good serve and forehand and seeing him having success after his 30s is an inspiration to many players in the tour. He beat Del Potro 7-5, 3-6, 7-5.

In other results so far this Thursday 16;
My lil sis fav. Hewitt defeated J Melzer.
N Almagro over J Nieminen 6-2, 6-2
Young American WC keeps on rolling; Sam Querrey over Nadal’s pacifier J Monaco 6-3, 7-5.

Life is all about making little readjustment here and there; you won’t ever make it perfect, but you can always model it in a way that makes you happy.

Roddick vs. David Ferrer

August 16th 2007 05:14
Roddick vs. David Ferrer

It won’t be a Spanish test when Andy Roddick faces off number 16th seed David Ferrer from Spain; it will be a test of whos wants it more.
The Spaniard has been on a roll defeating Indianapolis finalist John Isner 7-6(3), 6-3 and Radek Stepanek , 6-2, 7-5, who has been on fire doing the worm after every win in the US Open series.
The head-to-head between Roddick and Ferrer is 2-1, with Roddick on the lead. Roddick also took the W at their last meeting in the ATP Masters Series Miami this year.

So who do you think will take the big W this time?
Roddick is playing great; his backhand looks like it could really become a weapon in his arsenal. He needs the win because he’s the defending Champ and thus he has some points to defend. On the other hand I bet Ferrer will play like he has nothing to lose. To his credentials; he has two tittles this year and even though he is known as a clay court specialist; he has had respectful results on hard court. On top of that we can’t forget he has proven that he’s a fighter and won’t easily concede a defeat. Andy will have to do what he does best here hold his serve real tight.

The match begins at 1:00 pm EST (08-16-07) on Center court. ESPN2 will be covering it.
Check back for the discussion of the results.

Well we were all hoping for a great match up...all we got was a drubbing (as the pommies say) Sharapove is relegated to the grunting (dressing room) ....Venus won in a walkover

Lets all shed a tear...not because we hate Maria because we love to see Venus shining again. Lets face it none of us would like to be washed up before Thirty and we all like to see mature people have a crack at something like Wimbledon...Serena is playing as we speak, yes it isn't Martina V chris Evertt but I think we would all like to know the names of the finalists..there is room for young bloods in Tennis but Wimbledon is our institution..leave the no name match for the US open..Love a fmailiar match up...cheers to the Girls...let the Men go on their boring predictable ways..Nadal, Federer, roddick...bla bla..the favourites are kicking butts and swimming in Rolexes....heres to our lovelly Sport Tennis.....

For all us late night Wimbledon watchers this year has been Frustrating to say the least..I remember rain delays before but I am not sure if it has ever been this bad.....one to consult the history books over I guess.

Sharapova and Venus got relegated to Court 3 last night and reports are that they weren't too happy about the walk and some gloomy faces matched the clouds that brought Thunder, lightning and rain after just 3 whole points

Andy Roddick took his fourth Stella Artois Chamionship putting him with an elite few who have won four titles, Hewitt, McEnroe and Becker.

He saved a Match point to claim victory from frenchman Nicholas Mahut and is looking very good for a strong Wibledon challenge. As discussed the last 9 Grand Slam finals have been Federer v Nadal so we would all like to see a bit of variety and wathc Andy slug it out in the Final. Mind you it will be hard to stand in the way of Federer and the record books, he seems very focussed on making History these days, now he has missed the French again he will be hungry for lesser records than the elusive Grand Slam and five Wimbledon's is a very worthy record to hold

The Hopman Cup started yesterday and opened with the Australian team playing top seeds Russia. Alicia Molik and Mark P won both their singles matches. Both were playing strongly and I think with Alicia's form she'll get back up to the top ranks in no time. Mark P I'm not so sure about, as I believed Russia's Dmitry Tursunov was probably still out of form, playing a bit too hard in the first set and having balls falling long, and stuff, so it would probably be better to judge when he plays more matches. I am biased though, as I don't like Mark P very much, and I adore Dima, so maybe you shouldn't take my word for it.

Also yesterday, France played the USA team who are the defending champions, and also seeded, and France beat the US as well. Mardy Fish hit the net judge once and he ran over and asked if he/she (can't remember) was alright. I love that the Hopman is so lighthearted. The best commentary, interviews, stats, background snippet things, it's adorable. and no ads on the ABC. fantastic

Davis Cup Finals, Russia v Argentina

December 3rd 2006 00:58
Okay, here's me trying to start over. Unfortunately I have a feeling this won't work pretty well as it is the Tennis Calender's one month break before the fun starts Down Under after some scattered tournaments around the world in Doha and Chennai, etc.

The Davis Cup Finals started and it's been underway for two days and Russia's leading Argentina 2-1. Today's action sees David Nalbandian face of with Nikolai Davydenko before Marat Safin plays Juan Ignacio Chela, but as always that's subject to change because of reasons that I wouldn't know about, in the semi-finals Dmitry Tursunov replaced Mikhail Youzhny if i remember correctly in the 4th rubber and look what happened

Marat Safin's blog, Stockholm, Moscow

October 15th 2006 14:00
Everyone needs to go read Marat's blog. Like right now. It's the most mindblowing, deep thing I've read in ages. (Maybe because I don't read deep things very often.) I always have this image of Marat as being some 21 year old playboy but he sounds so mature and philosophical and cynical in his blog. Like wishing everybody to take care and not go do drugs and drink till your brain is fried. Argh, good words.

Marat Safin and Nikolai Davydenko are playing in the Moscow Kremlin Cup final as I speak. It's a battle of the Russians, although Marat says Davydenko's originally from Ukraine. Hmm. Davydenko is leading and about to take the 3rd set after they both have one set each

So yes, by now I'm sure everyone knows that Roger beat Andy Roddick in the finals of the US Open. It was nice to see Andy in a final again. Roger himself said

Agassi's last stand

September 10th 2006 01:25
Everyone's probably already heard everything there is to BE heard about Andre's last match against Benjamin Becker. Straight sets, sore back, being in tears at the end, standing ovation, fantabulous speech.

So I'll just refer everyone to ATP tennis.com's tributes, because they're better than anything I can hope to write

Yes so the joke is probably old, but Roger Federer won the Roger's Cup on Monday, defeating French teenager Richard Gasquet in the final, 2-6 6-3 6-2. Yes, Richard did manage to grab a set off the World Number 1, and that's a very good sign that his injury days (since the end of last year) are pretty much over. The shining prospect had defeated James Blake, the magician Fabrice Santoro and fellow rising stars in Andy Murray and Tomas Berdych.

Roger also had a tough draw, having to beat Fernando Gonzalez, Xavier Malisse, Dmitry Tursunov, Sebastian Grosjean and Paul-Henri Mathieu. Because it'd the first tournament since Wimbledon he's probably still getting used to the hard-court surface the US conditions, with the first 4 mentioned all managing to take a set off the Swiss

Roger Federer opened Wimbledon with a first-round match against Richard Gasquet started promisingly, breaking the teenager's serve in the Frenchmen's opening game and leading 3-0. Unfortunately after that the rain started (as typically expected at Wimbledon). After the drizzle the game continued and Roger won the first set 6-3, Richard never able to level. Then the rain started. Again. And that was it for Wimbledon Day 1, they continue today, hopefully finishing their matches!!

The official "Day 2" schedule includes Andre Agassi, who has announced his retirement at this year's US Open, his home tournament, after a chronic back injury that has made him skip both the Australian and French Opens this year already
